Resident Artist, August 16 - August 26 2012 Visiting Artist, August 6 - August 11 2013
Known as the BannerQueen, much of Amy's art is rooted in historical advertising for sideshows and traveling carnivals. Her paintings are often portraits or tributes to everyday people, places, and things, depicted as oddities or novelties in the style of a carnival banner. During her residency, she set up a painting studio for herself in our garage, and began two banners: a tribute to her late dog Olivia, and a portrait of The Great Log of Pentwater. After a rousing sand sculpture competition, Amy vowed to return the following summer to be our Director of Homecoming Activities. In 2013 she coached us at the sand sculpture contest, rallied the residents and locals to dress up crazy for the parade, and painted our very own Shared Space Studio banner to hold up as we strolled down the main drag.
