Resident Artist, June 5 - June 16 2015 Cara works in film and video, sculpture, drawing and installation, and also works as a curator and art writer. She extended a series of smushed cat sculptures at the studio, experimenting with firing the clay instead of making molds and casts from it. When Cara heard that our meadow next door would be paved over to build a Dollar General store next summer, she designed a piece that combined her interest in lawns and land ownership, and our dinner party event, A Pleasant Evening. As guests arrived, a young man on a riding mower was cutting out the future footprint of the store, the sounds and smells interrupting the gathering. After the party, everyone gathered outside to stand in the footprint and hear Cara read a recent essay on the suburban lawnscape.
