Special Event: Public Lecture by Visiting Artists
Juliet Hinely and Michelle Marie Murphy
Sunday November 20th, 5pm
Shared Space Studio is proud to present our first Artist-in-Residence, Michelle Marie Murphy. Murphy will discuss her present body of work, Perceptual Beauty, as well as her plans for the five-day residency. Juliet Hinley, a visiting artist from Ann Arbor, will also present her work and create an opportunity for us to discuss the two aritsts' work side by side. Q&A and a reception will follow the slide lecture.
Murphy is a contemporary artist using human perception and representation to create visual rhetoric. Murphy's portfolio includes photography, painting, sculpture and video. The medium varies, but the questions remain the same...How do you perceive yourself? What are the current expectations? Do you/I/we fit into the "image" of success?
Michelle received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2004. Her artwork has been published and exhibited Internationally; she has shown work in Geneva Switzerland, San Francisco, Chicago, and the Midwest. Michelle works as a Professional Photographer at NASA (Glenn Research Center), and as Faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Juliet Hinely is an interdisciplinary artist exploring local identity and history through site-responsive projects and installations. She is inspired by roadside attractions, local traditions, and places with long or forgotten histories. Juliet's work takes many forms including wallpaper, embroideries, audio-tours, parascopes, photography, and golden macaroni. She most enjoys showing in non-traditional art venues such as empty store fronts, old train stations, street corners, and has even had a show in a traveling art gallery in the back of van.
Juliet earned her BFA in Fiber at the Maryland Institute College of Art and is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan.
